The Justice Department said in a filing Wednesday that it will release the final report from special counsel Jack Smith on Donald Trump’s purported interference in the 2020 election, but will hold off on the Florida classified documents case report.
“There is neither any need nor legal basis for an injunction,” the filing said.
The final report for the classified documents will be withheld for as long as the case against Mr. Trump’s co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, remains pending, the filing said.
The filing comes after lawyers for Mr. Trump in two filings Monday tried to block the release of the reports, saying the release would “be nothing more than a lawless political stunt, designed to politically harm President Trump.”
