NEW YORK — Call in the Geek Squad — jurors in the hush money trial against former President Donald Trump were given a laptop containing the reams of evidence in the case.

The situation required two volunteer jurors — one man and one woman — to get a brief tutorial on how to use the laptop, so jurors could call up phone records, emails and other documents during their deliberations.

The lesson was brief, and the male juror gave a hand gesture that indicated the process was simple.

Prosecutors entered a litany of invoices, checks and other records into evidence, so jurors might use the laptop extensively as they weigh whether Mr. Trump criminally concealed a hush payment near the 2016 election.

Those jurors aren’t the only ones with special jobs.

Juror No. 1 is considered the foreman, so he must sign any notes from the deliberating room to verify their accuracy.

State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan clarified that the jury foreman should sign his number, not his real name.

Judge Merchan also thanked six alternate jurors — five women and one man — for being attentive during the case. He said their service is not done, because they need to hang out in case one of the main jurors can no longer deliberate.

The judge said they would find ways to keep the alternate jurors “entertained.”
