President Biden said Tuesday he stands by his son Hunter after the younger Biden was convicted on federal gun charges.
“I am the president, but I am also Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery,” Mr. Biden said in a statement.
The president said he accepts the outcome of the case and will continue to support Hunter as he considers an appeal.
“Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that,” the statement said.
Mr. Biden issued the statement moments after Hunter Biden was found guilty of all three felony counts related to the purchase and possession of a gun while he was addicted to crack cocaine.
The verdict marks the first time the child of a sitting president has been convicted of a crime.
