Actor Jamie Foxx shined new light on the 2023 illness that left him hospitalized, explaining to onlookers in Phoenix over the weekend that he woke up 20 days after first getting sick with no recollection of what happened.

“April 11 last year, bad headache, I asked my boy for an Advil,” Mr. Foxx said before snapping his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything,” he told people Sunday, per a video posted on social media by inspirational speaker Brenda Combs.

One doctor gave Mr. Foxx a shot of cortisone, a natural hormone that can treat inflammation, and a second doctor explained that something was going on with his head. Mr. Foxx added that he did not want to specify his condition on camera.

The Oscar-winning actor and comedian was hospitalized for weeks.

In early May 2023 he gave an update to fans on social media, writing simply that he appreciated all the support, before addressing his medical malady again in July on Instagram and other social-media sites.

“I just didn’t want you to see me like that … I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through,” he said at the time.

“Every once in a while I just burst into tears … because it’s been tough, man, I was sick … but now I’ve got my legs under me so you’re going to see me,” Mr. Foxx said.
