Israel said Sunday it launched an airstrike at a vehicle that had violated the cease-fire agreement with Hamas by traveling without prior inspection along a route in the central Gaza Strip.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling north on the Palestinian enclave’s coastal road that is reserved solely for pedestrian traffic, according to the Times of Israel.
“Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of aerial surveillance and precise munitions,” Israel Defense Forces officials posted on their Telegram social messaging site.
Palestinian vehicles are allowed to travel to north Gaza only along the Salah a-Din road, where they first undergo an inspection, officials said.
“The IDF is prepared for any scenario and will continue to take any necessary actions to thwart any immediate threat to IDF soldiers,” Israeli officials said Sunday.
Citing Palestinian media, the Times of Israel said up to four people were injured in the airstrike.
“The IDF is committed to fully implementing the conditions for the return of the hostages,” Israeli officials said. “The IDF once again calls on the residents of Gaza to follow its instructions and avoid approaching troops deployed in the area.”
