The White House said Thursday that a peace proposal has been backed by Israel and submitted to Hamas.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the offer and said, “Discussions are continuing.”

“We hope that a ceasefire in Gaza will take place so we can return all of the hostages home, and that’s been a priority from this administration from the beginning,” she told reporters at the press briefing.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told hostage families Thursday that he’s prepared to advance the peace plan presented by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, reports said.

Hamas is disappointed with the latest deal because it doesn’t guarantee that a temporary truce could turn into a permanent one, The Times of Israel reported.

The truce would last 60 days, and both sides would hold negotiations during the pause.

Ms. Leavitt said any decisions made will be announced by the White House.
