NextImg:Iran smuggling weapons into Jordan to create a new terror front, says Israel

Israel’s top diplomat is accusing Tehran of flooding Jordan with weapons and cash so they can be smuggled across the border into the West Bank to create a pro-Islamic terror front on Israel’s doorstep.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Iranian Revolutionary Guard units are collaborating with Hamas operatives in Lebanon to traffic the guns and funds into Jordan intending to destabilize the government. The ultimate goal is to target Tel Aviv and Israel’s other major population centers.

“The Iranian axis of evil today effectively controls refugee camps in Judea and Samaria through its proxies, leaving the Palestinian Authority powerless to act,” Mr. Katz said Monday on X. “We must take terror hubs like the Jenin refugee camp and carry out a thorough operational campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure in the camp.”

He called the smuggling operation “a serious and dangerous situation” while Iran works to establish an eastern terror front against Israel, as it has done in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

“This is a shared interest of Israel, many regional stages, and the entire free world to halt the spread of Iran’s axis of evil,” Mr. Katz said.

He also called for the completion of an eastern barrier along the border with Jordan to prevent the smuggling of weapons into Israel, which he said threatens the security of both countries.

The move comes as Israel braces for possible attacks by Iran and its proxies in retaliation for the killing of senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered the deployment of a guided missile submarine, the USS Georgia, and the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group, to the Middle East.
