Indianapolis police arrested a woman on terrorism charges Saturday for an incident where authorities said a driver intentionally rammed into a school because it had a Jewish symbol on the outside — only for the building to be owned by an antisemitic sect of the Black Hebrew Israelites.

Police said they took Ruba Almaghtheh, 34, into custody on felony intimidation charges because the suspect admitted to running into the school after being offended by the school’s “Hebrew Israelite” iconography on the front of the building, according to an arrest report obtained by local Fox affiliate WXIN.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said Ms. Almaghtheh made the admission during her courtesy phone call.

The suspect became motivated to carry out the attack while watching news coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, police said.

Authorities said Ms. Almaghtheh backed her car up into the building at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when several adults and children were inside.

The targeted school belongs to the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge, a sect of the Black Hebrew Israelites.

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge as a hate group. The Anti-Defamation League refers to them as an “extremist and anti-semitic” branch of the belief system.
