


Monday’s inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Some businesses, government offices and schools will be closed, and area transit will operate on an altered schedule.
Within the District of Columbia, much of downtown will be blocked off as part of a security and parade perimeter, bounded by K Street NW to the north, the Potomac River to the west, U.S. Interstate 395 to the south and 2nd Street NE and SE to the east, according to a release from Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Some roads will be closed while others will be open for certain periods before and during the inauguration. The full list of affected D.C. roads can be found here.
On Metrorail, McPherson Square, Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations on the orange, blue and silver lines will close at 8 p.m. Sunday and reopen at 5 a.m. Tuesday, along with Mount Vernon Square-Convention Center and Archives-Navy Memorial stations on the green and yellow lines. The Pentagon station on the blue and yellow lines will be closed all Monday.
The other stations across the Metrorail system will open at 4 a.m. Monday, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said on its website.
On WMATA’s Metrobus, buses will run on the Saturday supplemental schedule used for federal holidays that fall on a weekday, including MLK Day.
Some routes will be redirected and detoured due to the inauguration, including the 3F, 3Y, 7A, 10A, 11Y, 16A, 16C, 16E, 16Y, 22A, 38B, 31, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 52, 54, 59, 63, 64, 70, 74, 79, 80, 96, D4, D6, D8, G8, L2, N2, N4, N6, P6, S2, S9, X2, X8 and X9 routes.
For Virginia Railway Express riders, only trains marked with S will run Monday. Maryland Area Rail Commuter trains will operate on a full schedule instead of its normally reduced MLK Day schedule because of the inauguration.
Bicycles and two-wheeled scooters won’t be permitted on MARC trains from Saturday through Monday, MARC officials said on their website.
For people outside the city, they will find U.S. Post Offices, UPS stores and many bank branches closed. FedEx offers modified service at its open branches.
Local government offices and schools will be closed in D.C.; Montgomery, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Charles counties in Maryland; Alexandria, Virginia; and Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax counties in Virginia, according to WTOP-FM. Local transit services are running on alternate schedules.
