Identical twin Catholic clergymen have baptized twin babies in Pennsylvania, according to a recent report.
The independent Catholic News Agency reported Saturday that Father Ben Daghir and Deacon Luke Daghir of the Diocese of Erie baptized fraternal twins Gianna and Andrew Renwick during a Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Reynoldsville.
Parents Luke and Kristin Renwick told CNA after the Aug. 20 ceremony that they had prayed for twins because Kristin’s mother and maternal great-grandfather were twins.
After a miscarriage last fall, they believe God answered their prayers when they got pregnant again with twins. They rushed to tell their recently ordained pastor, Father Daghir, knowing he was also a twin.
“We had always prayed for twins,” Mrs. Renwick said. “You just never actually think — will God grant us these prayers? But, certainly, prayers were answered and God is good.”
They said Father Daghir suggested inviting his brother, a transitional deacon training to join his twin brother as a priest, to participate so that it would be “twins baptizing twins.”
After Gianna and Andrew were born on July 18, the Renwicks decided to hold the baptism during Mass to provide a “witness” to the congregation of three sets of twins united in faith.
“It was the Daghir twins and then my mom and my aunt, and then the babies, and we have this really cool picture of all of them together,” Mrs. Renwick told the news outlet.
