U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Tuesday that it has arrested an illegal immigrant gang member from Venezuela who is a suspect in a “mass shooting” in Chicago.
Ricardo Padillia-Granadillo, 24, was arrested in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday. Officers said they also found 10 other Venezuelan migrants and a handgun and ammunition in the residence.
The agency did not reveal any details of the mass shooting.
ICE identified Mr. Padillia-Granadillo as a member of Tren de Aragua, a gang that infiltrated the U.S. during the relaxed border policies of the Biden administration.
He was initially caught at the border on Oct. 1, 2022, but was released under a Biden “parole” program. He was supposed to appear for an appointment with the government last September but skipped it. The U.S. attorney in western Texas issued an arrest warrant for illegal entry.
