Homeland Security’s deportation force made nearly 1,000 more arrests Monday and has now apprehended more than 4,500 illegal immigrants since President Trump took the reins of government.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been touting the arrests on social media, celebrating newfound freedom to enforce laws that had been circumscribed during the Biden administration.
ICE said it scored 969 arrests on Monday.
It also placed 869 new detainer requests with other law enforcement agencies that are holding migrants, asking that they be turned over to ICE when they’re ready to be released from state or local custody.
Since ICE began releasing daily data on Thursday, the agency has reported 4,521 arrests and 3,519 new detainer requests.
That works out to a rate of more than 750 arrests a day, or double the pace the Biden administration set in fiscal 2024.
