U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tallied nearly 1,200 arrests on Sunday, including 67 members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, marking the biggest roundup yet under President Trump.
Among those arrested were a Cuban man with drug trafficking and weapons convictions, a Honduran man with a conviction for assault on a family member, a Mexican man facing drug and aggravated assault charges and an MS-13 gang member whose record in El Salvador included armed robbery and acts of terrorism.
He’d been out free in the U.S. on an order of recognizance but ICE’s Houston office has now brought him in to face deportation, according to data from an administration official.
ICE’s Atlanta office also arrested an illegal immigrant who’d been working inside a secure area at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, despite having already been ordered deported.
The numbers come as Homeland Security ramps up its effort to carry out Mr. Trump’s mass deportation plans.
Both officials and immigration activists say the full-court press is affecting illegal immigrants, who are increasingly wary of coming to the U.S. — or of remaining here in the open.
A Fox News reporter said on social media platform X that the Border Patrol recorded just 582 illegal crossings at the southern border on Sunday. Those numbers are not seen since the start of Mr. Trump’s first term in 2017.
