Police in Virginia said Wednesday the husband of a missing woman from Manassas Park is a person of interest in the investigation of her disappearance last month.

Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo said Naresh Bhatt, the husband of 28-year-old Mamta Kafle Bhatt, has stopped cooperating with authorities in their investigation.

Mrs. Bhatt, who is a mother, was last seen July 31.

Her coworkers first called police for a welfare check on Aug. 2, when Mrs. Bhatt missed her nursing shift at the UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas.

Mr. Bhatt originally told authorities his wife wasn’t missing because he hadn’t exhausted all search options, according to Fox News affiliate WTTG. He formally reported her missing Aug. 5.

Police have suggested that the woman vanished under “involuntary circumstances.”

“Our investigators have executed over 10 search warrants and conducted hundreds of interviews related to this case,” Chief Lugo said. “My staff continues to work tirelessly and follow up every lead, which we have received hundreds of leads on this case.”

Authorities executed a search warrant late Wednesday at Ms. Bhatt’s home. Chief Lugo said he hopes to reveal what was found during the home search on Thursday.

A missing person’s flier describes Ms. Bhatt as 5 feet tall and 132 pounds with black hair and dark brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the woman’s possible location is encouraged to contact the police department at 703-361-1136.
