House lawmakers commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day by parachuting into Normandy, France.

The bipartisan group of 10 jumpers was organized by Rep. Mike Waltz, Florida Republican, and Rep. Jason Crow, Colorado Democrat.

As veterans themselves, the lawmakers wanted to direct attention to the bravery of those who leaped from aircraft, at great danger to themselves, as part of the pivotal invasion to defeat Nazi Germany in World War II.

“Just hit the ground. The weight of this moment is not lost on me. To the Greatest Generation — our deepest thank you,” Mr. Crow posted Friday on the X with before-and-after photos.

Mr. Waltz joked that House Speaker Mike Johnson was “saying extra prayers” as eight of his GOP members donned parachutes.

“Next stop, Mont St Michel. See you on the ground!” Mr. Waltz posted from the plane.

Republican Reps. Ronny Jackson of Texas, Darrell Issa of California, Cory Mills of Florida and Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin also confirmed their participation via X.

The jump was a moment of solidarity in honor of D-Day heroes at a time when Congress can agree on very little.
