Vice President Kamala Harris has a 16-point lead over former President Donald Trump among young voters, according to a poll released Wednesday.

The NBC News Stay Tuned Gen Z poll powered by SurveyMonkey found that 50% of registered voters under 30 say they will vote for Ms. Harris compared with 34% going for Mr. Trump. An additional 6% said they plan to vote for someone else, while 10% said they wouldn’t vote in the presidential election.

Ms. Harris’ support among Gen Z voters still lags behind President Biden, who won 60% of voters ages 18-to-29 in 2020, according to data from Pew Research.

But it’s a marked improvement over Mr. Biden’s standing with Gen Z voters before he dropped out of the race. A National Public Radio poll taken shortly before he bowed out showed 33% of young voters intended to vote for him, just ahead of the 31% who said they were for Mr. Trump.

The NBC News poll also found that among Gen Z women, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 30 points. She also leads among young men, but by only 4 points.

Among those polled, 55% said they are “absolutely certain” they will vote Nov. 5.

The poll was conducted Aug. 23-30 and sampled 2,617 registered voters ages 18-29, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
