‘Happy Gilmore 2’ won’t premiere on Netflix until December 2025, but star Adam Sandler gave fans an early look at the golf comedy on social media on Wednesday.
The star-studded film is a slew of cameos from sports stars, according to golfer Jordan Spieth. The three-time major champion said he joined the cast along with current and former golf pros Jack Nicklaus, Rickie Fowler and Lee Trevino.
But it was NFL star Travis Kelce who stole the show in the first trailer. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who is known outside NFL circles for his highly publicized relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift, appears in a waiter’s uniform in the teaser trailer.
“It’s good to have you back, Mr. Gilmore,” Kelce’s as-yet-unnamed character said in the first line of the clip.
Sandler had already confirmed that Kelce would appear in the sequel to his 1993 classic earlier this year.
“We have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said on “The Tonight Show” in August. “He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”
The sports ties run deep for the production team behind “Happy Gilmore 2.” Director Kyle Newacheck — a professional pickleball player in his spare time — will lead production in the comedy, which features Sandler as a former ice hockey player who becomes a golfing sensation.
