Hamas on Tuesday shrugged off President Trump’s threat to unleash “all hell” in the Middle East if Hamas doesn’t release all of its remaining hostages in Gaza.

Trump must remember that there is an agreement that must be respected by both parties and this is the only way to bring back the [Israeli] prisoners. The language of threats has no value and only complicates matters,” senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters.

On Monday Mr. Trump said he had enough of Hamas’ freeing of the hostages in “drips and drabs,” adding that he fears many are dead.

“As far as I’m concerned, if all of the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock — I think that’s an appropriate time — I would say, cancel it and all bets are off and let all break out,” he said.

Mr. Trump added that he was speaking for himself and that Israel could override his decision. When asked what he meant when he said “all hell will break out,” he declined to offer further details.

“You’ll find out, and they’ll find out too. Hamas will find out what I mean,” he said.

Hamas and its affiliated groups reportedly are holding 73 hostages taken from Israel during the Oct. 7, 2023, attack. An additional three hostages held captive since 2014 are still in Gaza. On Saturday, Hamas released three hostages in the latest exchange since a ceasefire in its war with Israel went into effect on Jan. 19.

The bartering between the president and Hamas comes amid his Tuesday meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan. It’s expected to be tense after Mr. Trump suggested the U.S. take over Gaza and relocate its more than 2 million residents to transform the Palestinian enclave into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

As part of the plan, Mr. Trump said some Palestinians could be moved to Jordan, an idea King Abdullah publicly opposes. The president has the leverage of cutting off $2 billion in U.S. aid to Jordan if it refuses to accept resettled Palestinians.
