NextImg:Half of Baby boomers expect they can’t retire, market analysis research group says

NEWS AND OPINION:

So will the retirement years be a leisurely lifestyle of hobbies, golf greens and good books? Uh, not necessarily. A certain age group plans to keep on working.

“Baby Boomers are putting retirement plans on hold,” reports CivicScience.com, an opinion research group focused on market intelligence.

“New data show that many Americans approaching or already of retirement age plan to keep working at some level of frequency to support themselves. 53% of U.S. adults aged 55-plus expect they will need to continue working in their retirement years, with 16% saying they will rely primarily on working for their income,” the organization said in a brief report released Thursday.

Back to Las Vegas

And the presidential campaign rolls on. Donald Trump will journey to Las Vegas this weekend for a pair of significant events. He’ll attend what appears to be a very splendid campaign fundraiser on Saturday evening at an undisclosed location. He’ll then host a rally at Sunset Park on Sunday at high noon. The site boasts an amphitheater which offers lawn seating for 3,000 spectators.

Of note: Las Vegas is currently under an excessive heat warning through the weekend — when temperatures could soar to 108 degrees.

Heat or not, this is fairly friendly territory for Mr. Trump, who leads President Biden by 5.4% in the state of Nevada, this according to a RealClearPolling.com average of recent polls conducted by Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Cook Political Report, New York Times/Siena College and The Hill/Emerson College.

Meanwhile, Tony Grady — a self-described grass roots Republican now running for U.S. senator in the state of Nevada — continues to gain momentum on the trail, according to a statement released Thursday by his campaign.

“Tony continues to court voters on the trail while his opponents rely on their big-donor friends and refuse to face voters,” the campaign said in anticipation of the state’s primary election on June 11.

“Next Tuesday, voters have the option to vote for Tony Grady, who continues to lead with strong, common-sense, conservative leadership, while presenting solutions directly to the people of Nevada. The Silver State will be worse off with wannabe career politicians like Sam Brown and Jeff Gunter who are beholden to their establishment friends and donors’ interests,” the campaign advised.

A close one

A new Emerson College Polling national survey of U.S. voters finds 46% of voters support former President Donald Trump and 45% support President Biden in the 2024 presidential election. Nine percent are undecided.

“Since last month, Trump’s support has stayed the same, while Biden’s support has increased one point. When undecided voters are asked which candidate they lean toward, the race splits evenly; 50% support Biden and 50% support Trump,” the poll analysis reported on Thursday.

It’s complicated.

“Forty percent of voters say Trump’s criminal conviction of 34 felonies makes no impact on their vote this November — 33% say it makes them less likely to support the former president this November, and 27% more likely,” the analysis said.

“Trump’s support in our polling remained the same before and after his conviction,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, in a statement.

“A majority of Democrats say it makes them less likely to support Trump (51%) and a majority of Republicans (55%) say it makes them more likely to support Trump. A plurality of independents say it makes no impact (41%), while 38% are less likely to vote for Trump and 21% more likely,” Mr. Kimball noted.

Nightstand reading

A new book of note: “One Generation Away: Why Now is the Time to Restore American Freedom”  by Brilyn Hollyhand.

“When Ronald Reagan warned that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction, was he pointing to Generation Z?” the publisher asks in advance notes for the book, to be published July 9.

“Today’s young adults have been indoctrinated since preschool in the lie that America is fundamentally unjust. They have watched their parents hand over their freedom to big government, and they themselves are captivated by a deceptive ideology of unprecedented radicalism,” publisher Regnery Books says in advance notes.

“Out of this confused and dispirited generation has risen Brilyn Hollyhand, who offers his peers a prophetic vision of the greatness of America and its heritage. Drawing on the wisdom of the generations that founded, fought for, and preserved this great nation, Hollyhand defies the poisonous anti-Americanism that would cheat our youth out of their birthright of freedom,” Regnery notes.

“Hollyhand explains how we got into this mess and presents a plan for turning the tide. Wise beyond his years, he is a happy warrior in the battle of ideas, inspiring his contemporaries and encouraging the older generations,” the publisher said.
