District of Columbia police on Wednesday said a gunman shot three officers, and the suspect has since holed up in a residence in the Southeast part of the city.
Authorities said the officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting that occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Hanna Place Southeast.
Police said officers initially approached the suspect to serve an arrest warrant on animal cruelty charges.
The suspect refused to come out, so officers tried to force their way into the residence.
That’s when police said the gunman opened fire on officers.
A source familiar with the ongoing incident said the three officers were shot in the ankle, leg and hand.
The suspect remains barricaded inside the home where shots were first fired.
