Part of a post-production music manuscript of the main title theme for “Star Wars,” handwritten by composer John Williams, will be up for auction Thursday.

The music sheets were used to accompany the 1977 movie’s opening sequence, per the lot page at RR Auction. Mr. Williams won an Oscar for Best Original Score for his work on the first “Star Wars,” which would come to be known as “Episode IV: A New Hope.”

A total of 30 bars of the opening theme are contained on the sheet, starting from the fourth measure of the first system, when multiple instruments start playing together.

Annotations on the sheet include code for trumpets and trombones and a note that the music should be maestoso, a musical term meaning majestic.

The manuscript was first given by Mr. Williams to his music supervisor Len Engel in appreciation for their shared work on the “Star Wars” movies.

The partial manuscript has received 22 bids, with a high of $9,664. RR Auction estimates the piece will fetch over $10,000 by the time it’s sold.
