Although the Girl Scouts of the USA confirmed it will not be selling last year’s new and popular “Raspberry Rally” cookies for the upcoming 2024 season, the organization said it wasn’t keen on buyers looking to the resale market for them.
Unlike the other flavors sold in person, the raspberry cookies introduced for the 2023 season were sold online only. Cookies are sold by the Girl Scouts each year starting in January through March and early April.
The new cookies had the shape and chocolate coating of “Thin Mint” cookies but with mint swapped for raspberry, and they swiftly gained popularity with consumers.
“While Raspberry Rally was extremely popular last year, we are taking a pause this season to prioritize supplying our classic varieties,” a spokesperson for the Girl Scouts of the USA told NBC’s “Today” show on Tuesday.
Branches of the national organization indicated online earlier this year that the raspberry cookie had been booted from the 2024 lineup.
After the new flavor became popular and sold out, however, boxes started being resold on platforms such as eBay at marked-up prices, incensing the Girl Scouts organization.
“Girl Scouts of the USA is disappointed to see unauthorized resales of Girl Scout cookies online … When cookies are purchased through an unauthorized third-party seller, Girl Scout troops are deprived of valuable experience and, more importantly, proceeds,” the Girl Scouts of the USA told NBC’s “Today” show at the time.
