D.C. fire officials on Thursday said a gas explosion destroyed one building and damaged another along a major commercial corridor in Southeast.

Authorities said the explosion took place on the second floor of a building in the 1200 block of Marion Barry Avenue SE around 10 a.m.&nbsp;

Officials said the area was evacuated prior to the explosion because of an active gas leak.&nbsp;

One person was injured by flying debris, authorities said, but the severity of their injuries wasn’t disclosed. &nbsp;

D.C. Fire and EMS said crews are working to control the blaze and limit damage to other neighboring businesses.
