NextImg:GameStop to offer retro games and consoles at select locations

Fans of older game consoles and games for them will now be able to buy them at select GameStop stores, the nationwide video game retailer announced this week.

“The classics are back,” the chain wrote in all capital letters in a post on X. “New Retro GameStops are now spawning near you.”

GameStop linked to a store locator on its website, allowing users to search for stores with certain older gaming products within 100 miles of a given zip code.

GameStop’s retro offerings will include the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the Super NES, the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo Gamecube, Wii and Wii U, the first, second and third iterations of the Sony PlayStation, the Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360, the Sega Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast, the Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, DS and Sony PlayStation Vita.

One notable omission from the list is the predecessor to the PlayStation Vita, the PlayStation Portable or PSP. There are no PSPs listed for sale on the GameStop website, although there is a camera attachment for the handheld console available.

GameStop did not specify how many stores will have retro products available, whether selection would be mostly uniform across stores, or whether retro offerings would become permanent at stores selling those products.

GameStop did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
