A house exploded in the Miami metropolitan area Tuesday morning, injuring four people and causing damage to nearby homes and cars.
The blast went off at a home in West Park, Florida, at 12:34 a.m., the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Four people were injured, including two children. Law enforcement did not name the victims. The initial blast produced a fiery cloud, leaving the victims with burns and injuries of varying intensity.
“They appear to have all been living in the home where the explosion took place. Two of them were children, the other two were adults. … Of the four, injuries include burns, traumatic injuries, broken bones, and things of that nature,” Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said, according to WFOR-TV.
Ervin Rogers, who lives across the street from the now-leveled house, said the property was under renovation.
“It was like a bomb, never heard anything like it in my life. Woke me right up,” Mr. Rogers told the Sun Sentinel.
Another resident, Adrian Moaatt, described the blast to WFOR-TV.
“I was inside watching a movie around 12 (a.m.) and I heard this loud explosion. It wasn’t like an earthquake, it was so impact(ful) that I thought the house was coming in on me,” Mr. Moaatt said.
The exact cause of the explosion is now under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal, but local fire officials have a theory as to what caused the blast.
“The home was completely destroyed, it appeared to be by some type of gas,” Chief Kane said, according to the Miami Herald.
