NextImg:Four independent District sportsbooks became inactive in October after their vendor left the market

Four independent sportsbooks located in bars in the District are inactive and no longer taking bets as of October.

Sportsbooks run by national gambling brands, however, remain open for business.

In October, the sportsbooks at Ugly Mug on 8th Street SE, two Grand Central locations on 18th Street NW and H Street NE and Over-Under Sportsbar on K Street NW all recorded no wagers, according to data from the D.C. Office of Lottery and Gaming.

All four went inactive because their technology vendor and betting license holder, Elys BMG, exited the District market and “ceased operations,” OLG told the Washington Business Journal. OLG did not say when Elys BMG exited the city, although all four sportsbooks did take bets in September.

There is currently one remaining independent sportsbook, Sports & Social on U Street NW, whose betting is operated via national sports gambling platform FanDuel, according to the Journal.

Over-Under has commented on its website that “Our sportsbook provider has chosen to cease operations in Washington, D.C., leading us to temporarily suspend sports betting as we search for a new partner. Rest assured, we will honor all existing bets and pay out any winning wagers.”

The Ugly Mug does not make any mention of their sportsbook on its website, and both Grand Central sportsbook locations are closed, according to the Washington Business Journal.

Elys BMG has not posted on X since August, when it announced the sportsbook at the Grand Central location on 18th Street NW, and has not filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission since July.
