Montgomery County police charged a former middle school teacher on Tuesday with sexually abusing one of her eighth-grade students in 2015.
Authorities took Melissa Marie Curtis, 31, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, into custody on charges of sexual abuse of a minor after the suspect turned herself in.
Police documents obtained by local Fox affiliate WTTG said that the alleged abuse took place between January and May of 2015 when Ms. Curtis taught at Montgomery Village Middle School.
Ms. Curtis, then 22, had sex with the 14-year-old male victim more than 20 times, according to the documents.
The abuse occurred inside the school, in the suspect’s car and at various residences throughout Montgomery County. Police documents said Ms. Curtis gave the boy marijuana and alcohol.
The suspect later went on to teach at Lakelands Park Middle School. She left Montgomery County Public Schools in 2017.
An investigation into Ms. Curtis was launched last month after the victim, now an adult, came forward.
Police believe there may be additional victims.
Ms. Curtis has a bond review hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
