A Florida school system put a teacher on leave Tuesday after police said they arrested the man on three occasions within a week.
The School District of Palm Beach County said Tuesday that Hawazin Wright, 43, was placed on administrative leave following his most recent arrest Sunday on charges of written threats to kill or do bodily injury and for making a harassing phone call.
West Palm Beach police said they took Mr. Wright into custody that day after he harassed a 46-year-old woman he met online.
Authorities said the woman decided to stop seeing Mr. Wright after three dates because he deceived her, including lying about being “arrested at least twice by this agency for violent offenses.”
Mr. Wright then threatened the victim by saying she was a “dead woman walking” and that she would be “dead by morning” if his calls were sent to voicemail, according to police.
The suspect is also accused of dropping by her apartment complex to look for her, the building’s manager told police.
On Friday, Mr. Wright was arrested on weapons assault and drug charges for an incident outside a bar.
Witnesses told police the suspect was acting “strange” and was “bothering” people inside the bar before he tried to follow a woman home.
Authorities said a confrontation took place shortly afterward when the suspect pulled out a 12-inch retractable baton and waved it around threateningly.
A bystander and a bar security guard intervened and held down the suspect until officers arrived, according to police.
Police said they found a small baggie with a white, crystal-like substance in his jacket pocket during the arrest. Charging documents suggested the substance was ecstasy.
On Nov. 19, Mr. Wright was arrested on weapons charges and resisting arrest while attending a pro-Palestinian rally.
Police said Mr. Wright was disrupting traffic during the protest and began to move away from officers advising him to get on the sidewalk.
Officers then went to arrest Mr. Wright as the suspect tried to flee.
He was tackled to the ground after a short chase, and police said they found a 10-foot scimitar knife on him.
Palm Beach County Jail records show Mr. Wright remains behind bars on a $46,000 bond.
