A federal judge in New York has dropped a sexual assault lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs because the woman who filed the suit has chosen to remain unnamed.

Attorney Tony Buzbee filed the lawsuit in October on behalf of “Jane Doe.” It alleged that the hip-hop mogul attempted to sexually assault the woman at a Manhattan party in 1995 and struck her when she resisted his advances.

The New York court gave Jane Doe until March 20 to refile the lawsuit under her legal name.

“In this particular case, Jane Doe opted not to proceed,” Mr. Buzbee told Variety. “There is a lot of fear amongst these plaintiffs. I thus can’t blame her.”

He had filed a motion in January requesting that Jane Doe be allowed to proceed anonymously, but the court denied it, citing “the very gravity of the charges” and “no evidence of specific and concrete harm … undermin[ing] her claim to proceed anonymously.”

Mr. Combs is in federal custody in Brooklyn on separate charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.
