A left-wing political action committee is raising money for Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush after the White House criticized them for proposing a cease-fire by Israel and the Palestinians.

Justice Democrats, a group that has helped get the likes of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez elected, sent out an email Thursday asking for donations for Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Bush.

“Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib are under attack from the White House for calling for a cease-fire from both Palestine and Israel to prevent the further loss of innocent Palestinian and Israeli life, instead of beating the drums of war and pledging unwavering support for further escalation by the Israeli military,” the email read.

On X, Ms. Bush, Missouri Democrat, posted her statement Saturday saying she condemned “the targeting of civilians” and urged for an “immediate cease-fire and de-escalation to prevent further loss of life.”

“Violations of human rights do not justify more violations of human rights, and a military response will only exacerbate the suffering of Palestinians and Israelis alike,” she wrote.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Ms. Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat of Palestinian descent, said she “grieve[s] the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today and every day,” then called for Israel’s “ending the occupation and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.”

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the cease-fire statements “repugnant” and “disgraceful” after she was asked what President Biden’s message would be to members of Congress who compare Hamas’ attack to previous actions by Israel.

“So I’ve seen some of those statements this weekend,” Ms. Jean-Pierre said. “And we’re gonna continue to be very clear. We believe they’re wrong. We believe they’re repugnant and we believe they’re disgraceful.”

Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Bush are part of Congress’ Squad of far-left Democrats.

“To the Squad, shut the hell up,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, said Monday on Fox News. “You’re emboldening the enemy. You’re a disgrace to the United States Congress. You’re siding with terrorists over a democracy called Israel. You have lost your perspective here. I’m confident most Democrats do not agree with the Squad.”

The PAC’s email said the congresswomen are “both showing political courage by calling for an immediate cease-fire and being some of the few leaders truthful enough to call out Israel — alongside Hamas — for its war crimes against civilians.”
