A former Walgreens manager in the District pleaded guilty Thursday after federal prosecutors said she helped orchestrate several staged robberies inside the Chinatown drug store where she worked.
Authorities said London Teeter, 21, was convicted for seven separate “inside-job” robberies between July 2023 and February 2024 in which the ex-manager joined a scheme to have the stick-ups take place when the store was making daily cash transfers.
Teeter’s alleged co-conspirators — Michael Robinson, 34; Kamanye Williams, 25; and Gianni Robinson, 27 — are still awaiting trial.
Court documents said Teeter was the manager for the July 18, 2023, robbery where she pretended to be a victim.
Mr. Williams entered the store, flashed a handgun at an employee and had the employee enter the code for the manager’s office, where Teeter was inside counting the day’s proceeds.
The filing said Mr. Williams stole up to $5,000, with Gianni Robinson instructing him over text to “bring 900 & u keep everything else.”
Prosecutors said the next staged robbery on Aug. 2, 2023, involved Mr. Williams forcing Michael Robinson into the manager’s office at gunpoint.
Mr. Williams swiped $6,000 from a safe, but text messages from Teeter pointed out that the supposed robber looked too casual on camera.
Teeter texted Michael Robinson that the surveillance footage “looks so bad” and she didn’t know why “he put the gun down,” according to court documents. Prosecutors said Mr. Williams put his gun on a chair while Michael Robinson fiddled with the safe.
In another text to Michael Robinson, Teeter said Mr. Williams “can’t do it next time.”
The filing said Teeter was the manager on duty for a Jan. 9, 2024, robbery where Mr. Williams made off with $3,000.
The Walgreens eventually hired armed Special Police Officers to guard the store.
Prosecutors said Teeter knew the officers would be on-site for robberies that occurred in December 2023 and February 2024, and that the robberies were timed up to catch the officers off-guard and disarm them.
Teeter admitted in her plea that she and her co-conspirators stole and divided up nearly $29,000.
She could face up to 20 years in prison when she returns to court for sentencing in June.
