An electrocution incident at a fountain in Jupiter, Florida, left three juveniles and one adult hospitalized and another adult dead.
Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue responded to the Harbourside Place shopping complex Sunday after getting reports of a possible drowning.
When they arrived, they found a distressed juvenile in the fountain and others around it injured from an electric shock while in and around the water.
The other people involved in the incident were shocked when trying to help the possibly drowning juvenile, according to The Palm Beach Post.
Eight people were affected. In addition to the four hospitalized patients and the fifth pronounced dead at the hospital, three others were injured but did not require medical transportation, fire and rescue officials said in a release on Facebook.
Of those hospitalized, the three juveniles are still recovering while the surviving adult has been released, the Jupiter Police Department said in a release on Facebook.
In addition to police, the Jupiter Building Department, Florida Power & Light Co. and the owners of Harbourside Place are investigating the cause of the electric shock, police said.
“This is a tragedy. Our focus is on the people involved and their families. We ask the community to join us in praying for them,” Harbourside CEO Nick Mastroianni said in a statement, according to NBC affiliate WPTV-TV.
