President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that Damac Properties, a United Arab Emirates real estate firm, will spend $20 billion to build new data centers in the U.S.

Speaking from Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump said the data centers will be built in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.

“This investment will support massive new data centers across the Midwest, the Sun Belt area and also keep America on the cutting edge of technology and artificial intelligence,” Mr. Trump said.

Damac Properties Chairman Hussian Sajwani joined Mr. Trump at Mar-a-Lago for the announcement.

“It’s been amazing news for me and my family when he was elected in November,” Mr. Sajwani said of Mr. Trump. “We’ve been waiting four years to increase our investments in the U.S. to a very large amount of money.”

Damac is in 10 countries across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, but this $20 billion commitment is its first foray into the U.S.

Mr. Trump did not offer any more details about the project, but pledged to work with Damac to ensure that “everything goes smoothly.”

Last month, Mr. Trump announced a $100 billion investment by Japanese financial and tech giant SoftBank. That project is focused on artificial intelligence and infrastructure, and is expected to generate 100,000 jobs.
