Dragons at Disneyland may not actually breathe fire, but they do catch on fire.
That’s what happened when the animatronic dragon became engulfed in flames during the nightly Fantasmic! fireworks show at the California theme park Saturday, according to videos of the incident posted on social media.
The fire was first visible on the dragon’s face. Falling embers then spread the flames to the rest of its upright, 45-foot body, causing the entire prop to be set ablaze.
Park staff started evacuating the crowd away from the flaming structure as first responders worked to put out the fire, according to KTLA.
“During the final showing of Fantasmic at Disneyland park on Saturday evening, the dragon caught fire. Anaheim Fire & Rescue quickly responded and the fire was extinguished,” Disneyland said in a statement to KTLA.
“All cast members were evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island. Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely cleared of any guests.”No one was injured during the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
