Disney has canceled its original “Star Wars” show “The Acolyte” after one eight-episode season streamed on Disney+.

Opinions on the show were polarized, garnering a 78% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but only an 18% from viewing audiences. The show cost an exorbitant $180 million to make, according to The New York Times.

Some viewers accused the series of being woke, pointing to a line about whether to use he or they for a small animated rodent-like character as well as a coven of “lesbian space witches” that conceive a child without any involvement from a man.

“The Acolyte” started out strongly on June 4, netting 4.8 million views on Disney+ in what’s the strongest premiere on the platform in 2024.

By its third week on Disney+, however, “The Acolyte” had fallen out of the Nielsen Top 10 originals chart. At 335 million minutes viewed, it’s believed to have had the lowest amount of views for a “Star Wars” series finale, according to Deadline.
