The chief super PAC backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid is pulling back on plans to air ads next year in key primary states.

The ad tracking firm AdImpact said Never Back Down, which has been mired in infighting and a leadership shakeup, is “canceling all of its 2024 reservations in Iowa and New Hampshire.”

“So far, we’ve tracked cancellations totaling $2.5M,” the nonpartisan group said on X.

The news follows the recent resignation of Joe Roe, who served as the group’s top strategist.

Mr. Roe resigned after news reports said the super PAC, which was supposed to be Mr. DeSantis’ secret weapon, faced accusations of mismanagement and a souring relationship with the DeSantis campaign.

The DeSantis campaign also reportedly grew concerned that some of his supportive outside groups were blurring the lines of what they could and could not do.

Mr. DeSantis entered the 2024 race with high hopes after notching a landslide reelection victory in Florida and steering the state Republican Party to major gains up and down the ticket.

He also delivered on legislative promises that energized Republicans and grassroots activists.

Mr. DeSantis has struggled to live up to the hype, and now it appears the fate of his presidential bid hinges on him overperforming expectations in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 15.
