Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis echoed the calls of House Republicans that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached for his handling of the southern border.
“Yes, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached,” Mr. DeSantis wrote Saturday on X. “Mayorkas has disregarded his oath of office and the Constitution by letting in 8 million illegal aliens.”
He continued, “One of the reasons we have such bad outcomes in Washington is because no one is ever held accountable!”
Mr. DeSantis’ sentiment comes as House Republicans this week wrapped up impeachment hearings against Mr. Mayorkas, with lawmakers and witnesses painting the U.S./Mexico border chaos as caused by Biden officials.
The embattled secretary was notably absent from the hearings, led by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Tennessee Republican.
All 18 Republicans on the committee announced their support for impeaching Mr. Mayorkas, meaning the case has enough votes to move from the panel to a floor vote.
Mr. Green didn’t set a date for a committee vote on impeaching Mr. Mayorkas, instead opting to give him 10 days to provide written testimony to describe his border decision-making.
