Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed his state Attorney General Ashley Moody to fill the U.S. Senate seat that will soon be vacated by fellow Republican Marco Rubio, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to head the State Department.
“We’ve had an attorney general who has been somebody who has acted, time and time again, to support the values we all share,” Mr. DeSantis said Thursday.
Mr. DeSantis cited Mr. Trump’s historic victory and the need to appoint a senator “that will rise to the occasion and make history. No more business as usual in Washington, D.C.”
Mr. DeSantis said he picked “from a number of great candidates,” with the final criterion being “I wanted someone with a demonstrated record of delivering results” on key issues such as stopping illegal immigration.
