Senate Democrats on Monday launched a portal for whistleblowers to report “wrongdoing, abuses of power, and threats to public safety” amid the Department of Government Efficiency onslaught against the federal workforce.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, and Senate Homeland Security Committee ranking member Gary Peters, Michigan Democrat, announced the new portal in an open letter addressed to “the Brave Public Servants and Whistleblowers.”
“Senate Democrats have been working tirelessly to investigate the recent actions of the Trump administration,” they wrote. “Through oversight requests, hearings, and inquiries, our caucus is determined to hold accountable those who have engaged in lawless actions that undermine our democracy, and the courageous disclosures of whistleblowers will be invaluable to that mission.”
Democrats have vehemently opposed DOGE’s efforts to eliminate and downsize federal agencies, such as the United States Agency for International Development, or USAID, and access sensitive government payment systems.
Mr. Schumer and Mr. Peters said Democrats, while not in power, can preserve public records, issue demand letters, hold public forums and pursue legal action in an effort to provide a constitutional check on the executive branch, and that whistleblowers’ tips can help with that.
“Your courage in stepping forward to expose corruption, misconduct, and incompetence is essential to preserving the integrity of our democratic institutions,” they wrote.
