In Michigan’s 8th District, perennial Republican candidate Paul Junge lost his third straight House race early Wednesday.
The seat will remain in Democrats’ control after state Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet beat Mr. Junge to replace retiring Rep. Dan Kildee.
The 8th District includes Flint and the tri-cities metropolitan area around Saginaw, Midland and Bay City. Ms. McDonald Rivet lives in Bay City, where she previously served as a city commissioner.
Democrats painted Mr. Junge, a former criminal prosecutor and news anchor who has self-funded large portions of his campaigns with millions he inherited from his father, as a “carpetbagger” who only moved back to Michigan in 2019 to run for office.
Mr. Junge lost to Mr. Kidlee in 2022 and to Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in 2020 in a former iteration of the 8th District before the lines were redrawn.
