Democratic National Convention delegates began voting online to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to the top of the ticket in November.

Ballots were distributed Aug.1 to the DNC’s nearly 4,000 delegates. The delegates must fill out ballots online or by phone. The voting window closes at the end of the day on Aug. 5.

The online process is expected to hand Ms. Harris the nomination by as early as Monday night, long before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago begins on Aug. 19.

Ms. Harris, 59, is running unopposed on the online ballot. Delegates can also choose “present” if they do not want to vote for her, but she’s expected to scoop up the vast majority of votes.

The party quickly coalesced around Ms. Harris following President Biden’s sudden announcement on July 21 that he would drop out of the race.

Mr. Biden, 81, and other top party leaders, including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, endorsed Ms. Harris.

She’s expected to announce a running mate before Aug. 7. The Harris campaign said the candidate and her vice presidential pick will begin a campaign swing through key battleground states starting Tuesday.
