After the Supreme Court ended its latest term giving presidents immunity for official acts, a leading Democratic senator is calling to expand the high court while a Squad member wants justices impeached.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Democrat, posted on X that President Biden should add liberal justices to the bench to counter the 6-3 conservative majority cemented by former President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell stole two seats on the Supreme Court, and we’re living with the consequences. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s time to expand the court,” she wrote Tuesday.
Her comments followed those from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, who wrote on the same platform Monday she’ll move to impeach some of the justices after they ruled Mr. Trump could have some immunity from criminal prosecution.
“The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control. Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return,” she posted.
The political outrage came after the Supreme Court ruled Monday morning that presidents enjoy absolute immunity for actions taken under their core presidential duties and are presumed to have immunity from criminal prosecution for other behavior.

But the justices said a president is not entitled to immunity from prosecution for unofficial acts.
The ruling was 6-3, divided along ideological lines, and wasn’t a direct win for Mr. Trump, as it sent directives to a lower court on how to weigh his official versus unofficial conduct charged in an indictment by special counsel Jack Smith.
Still, the ruling is sure to delay pending trials against Mr. Trump likely beyond Election Day.
