A deer leaped into Cedar Grove Elementary School in Toms River, New Jersey, last weekend, leading police to come and get it out.
An unnamed resident walking his dog at 10 p.m. Saturday saw a deer crash through the school window and called police, a Toms River police spokesperson told the New York Post.
The Toms River Police Department posted a video on Facebook Thursday containing body camera footage of their chase, set to a cover of the Christmas rock song “Run Rudolph Run.” The deer can be seen going into a classroom, jumping on furniture and knocking down decorations.
Officers opened a rear door and guided the deer out. The video shows the deer outside running into woods behind the school.
“Thankfully it was only in the building a short time. … School security was notified to come board up the window, and the school custodian came in to clean up,” the TRPD spokesperson told NJ.com.
Students and staff were stunned to hear the reason for the broken window when they arrived for class Monday.
“I didn’t make a formal announcement. I spoke to kids on an individual basis when they asked about the broken window in the B foyer. At first, they didn’t believe me. Teachers were floored,” Cedar Grove Principal Stacey Monetti told WKXW radio.
Deer are amid their seasonal rut, and there have been instances nationwide of the animals busting through windows.
Earlier this month, an adult buck smashed the glass at a lingerie store in Michigan, while in Maine another deer got into a TJ Maxx on Thanksgiving.
