A 19-year-old D.C. man was arrested this week, accused by the Arlington County Police Department of ramming a stolen car into two occupied cop cars with the intent to hurt officers.
Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, ACPD officers saw a parked car that had been reported stolen sitting unoccupied in a parking garage. The officers waited and observed until they saw an unnamed woman accompanied by Khairi Jones approach and enter the car.
ACPD initiated a vehicle stop but alleges that Mr. Jones accelerated in an attempt to flee, ramming an occupied cop car that itself nearly struck an ACPD officer who was at the scene on foot. Mr. Jones then tried to leave the parking garage and officers tried to stop the car again, issuing commands for Mr. Jones and his companion. Mr. Jones then rammed a second cop car and was subsequently arrested, ACPD said.
No one was injured. Police searched the car and purportedly found a fully automatic modified handgun, ammunition and high-capacity magazines, unspecified narcotics, a stolen license plate and credit cards that did not belong to Mr. Jones.
Mr. Jones has been charged with three counts of attempted malicious wounding of police, two counts of credit card theft and one count each of unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of a machine gun during a violent crime, possession of a Schedule I or Schedule II drug with the intent to distribute, possession of a gun while in possession of a Schedule I/II substance, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a loaded firearm with a high capacity magazine, hit and run, eluding and receiving stolen goods.
He is in custody without bond.
