A member of a D.C. street gang was sentenced to more than two years behind bars after prosecutors said the man used federal COVID-19 relief funds to buy large amounts of drugs for the criminal outfit.

U.S. authorities said Ronald Lynn Dorsey, a member of the Kennedy Street Crew in Northwest, was given a 30-month sentence for making bulk buys of crack cocaine and marijuana with forgivable PPP and EDIL loans.

Dorsey, 29, also tried to clean the drug money by gambling at D.C.-area casinos, prosecutors said.

He was sentenced last week for carrying out the scheme where he helped set up phony companies to apply for federal dollars.

Dorsey received his sentence the same day that Aaron DeAndre Mercer, 33, was handed a 10-year prison term for supplying the gang with fentanyl, crack and marijuana.

Prosecutors said the Kennedy Street Crew, commonly known as “KDY,” controlled 11 blocks in Northwest where the gang ran an open-air drug market and defended their turf with high-powered weaponry.

So far, six members of KDY have been sentenced to anywhere from 15 months to 10 years behind bars for their roles in the criminal enterprise.

Five others have pleaded guilty to charges ranging from gun possession to drug trafficking.

The case for Khali Ahmed Brown, 22, who is facing drug and weapons charges, is still working its way through the court system.
