NextImg:D.C. denies role in anti-Trump ‘trash’ posters; Republicans skeptical

The Washington, D.C., city government denies involvement in posters denigrating President-elect Donald Trump’s supporters as “trash,” but Republicans aren’t buying it.

The posters on local transit space depict the president-elect holding a copy of Project 2025 crossed out, with the words “Keep DC trash free.”

The images were posted on social media over the weekend, prompting the District Department of Transportation to say on X that “this image was not created, funded, or authorized by the DC government, and our team has already removed the image.”

The denial was not persuasive to many.

Typical of the immediate replies to the post were “yeah right,” “repeal DC Home Rule,” “if only DDOT could be as responsive to life and death traffic issues,” and “How did it get up there? You lying scumbags it never would’ve gotten up if it was about Biden!”

Jake Schneider, the Trump War Room’s rapid response director, noted that the posters had the D.C. government’s logo at the bottom.

“Mayor Bowser denies involvement, but you have to wonder,” he said.

There is much history here.

President Biden once called Mr. Trump’s supporters “garbage,” prompting a memorable troll response from Mr. Trump, driving a garbage truck at a Pennsylvania campaign stop.

One Trump supporter also noted Mayor Muriel Bowser’s testy relationship with Mr. Trump in his first term as president.

“We don’t have to ’wonder,’” wrote Paul Gadot. “In the middle of the federal government operations, she paints BLM in the district streets, withholds police and National Guard protections for Donald Trump, implements soft-on-crime policies, and now posts anti-Trumpm posters throughout the district. But the Mayor claims to be ignorant.”
