Customs and Border Protection agents in Seattle have stopped a shipment of 11,134 fake Labubu collectible dolls valued at nearly $514,000.
CBP Seattle Field Office Director of Field Operations Brian Humphrey wrote on X, “LabuWHO? @cbp officers in Seattle, WA seized 11,134 counterfeit LABUBU dolls valued at $513,937.76. Excellent work by our diligent and meticulous CBPOs! P.S. we’re still on the lookout for the one and only 24K GOLD Labubu,” referring to a purported rare and real Labubu made and sold by Chinese retailer Pop Mart.
The fake dolls arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in a shipment from Seoul, South Korea, labeled “LED Bulbs” on Aug. 26, a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told the Seattle Times. No arrests have been made in connection with the fakes, which will be destroyed.
The popularity of Labubu collectibles has spurred fakes, and U.S. consumer safety officials said last month that counterfeits pose safety risks.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that fake Labubu dolls are often small enough or break into small enough pieces to become a choking hazard for kids.
