Country singer George Strait set the record for the largest attendance at a ticketed concert in the U.S. by drawing 110,905 fans to Kyle Field at Texas A&M University on Saturday.

Mr. Strait’s concert bested both the Grateful Dead and the university’s football team. In 1977, a Grateful Dead show in New Jersey saw 107,019 fans attend, according to Billboard.

“That’s amazing. One hundred ten, nine?” Mr. Strait rhetorically asked the crowd upon learning the record had been broken.

The previous attendance record for Kyle Field was a home game for the Aggies on Oct. 11, 2014, a 35-20 loss to the visiting Ole Miss Rebels. The game was attended by 110,633, according to ESPN.

Mr. Strait also broke his own record for the largest crowd at an event in Texas. His previous high point in the Lone Star State was a show in front of 104,793 people at AT&T Field in Arlington, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Saturday’s show was the first time Mr. Strait had ever played at Kyle Field.

“Oh yeah! I’m ashamed to say this, but this is my first time to ever be in Kyle Field. Damn! Just invite me back, I’ll come!” Mr. Strait told the throng of fans.

Mr. Strait is no stranger to smashing records. His 44 chart-topping singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart edged out legendary country star Conway Twitty, who had 40 chart-topping singles.

Called the “King of Country Music” by some, Mr. Strait has the most chart-topping singles of any artist in any genre and the most chart-toppers on the Top Country Albums charts. He is also the only artist to have a top 10 hit on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts every year for 30 years straight, according to Billboard.

Mr. Strait’s 31st studio album “Cowboys and Dreamers” is set to release on Sept. 6.
