Two contractors working at a Sanitation District No. 1 pump station in Bromley, Kentucky, died Thursday after becoming trapped and drowning.

At about 11:54 a.m. local time, first responders arrived after reports of a drowning. One person at the scene refused medical treatment and was later taken to a hospital by family, the Park Hills Police Department said in a post on Facebook.

The pump station was under construction and not operational, Steve Hensley with Kenton County Emergency Management told WLWT-TV.

The two victims, Josh Mason, 26, and Mason Neises, 23, were missing until 6 p.m., when one of the bodies was found, leading authorities to presume the death of the other. The second body was recovered at about midnight, according to WKRC-TV.

Their employer, Building Crafts Inc. of Wilder, Kentucky, made their identities public Friday.

“All of us at Building Crafts, Inc., wish to express our extreme sorry for the loss of our co-workers and friends. … Both were hard-working young men who were taken from their families far too early. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Mason and Josh,” the company told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
