Police in Colorado released a video Tuesday showing the moment robbers had their getaway vehicle stolen by another opportunistic thief.
Commerce City police said a woman jumped at the chance to hop in a running SUV while three gunmen stormed a check cashing business during a heist over the weekend.
The video shows the woman watching the robbers as they park in the middle of a road before the trio rushed into the victimized business.
The woman waits 30 seconds before scurrying over to the vehicle, getting behind the wheel and speeding off.
“So ma’am — whoever you are — we’d like to shake your hand. Then slap a pair of handcuffs on it because you’re also facing motor vehicle theft charges,” Commerce City police said in a statement.
Police said the “unexpected and ironic twist” forced the robbers to flee on foot once they returned to the parking lot.
Two of the armed suspects, who police said were juvenile males, were quickly apprehended near the scene. The third robber was on the loose.
Authorities said they believe the car used in the heist had already been stolen, but they have yet to confirm that.
